04Feb2012 – the photo at the head of Page1 is a bit out of date now…….

 A bit more recent, July2011 and Sep2011…

It’s been a long time since I updated this page and there’s been quite a lot of other changes to my Multistrada 1200S Sport including some more carbon parts and a DIY black shorty screen. I’ll pull my finger out and post details soon!

I’ll be working on adding details of more modifications /’mods’ to my Multistrada 1200 that don’t yet appear here over the next week or so 😉

MTS1200 DIY Handlebar GPS / SatNav Mount
I like my GPS (currently a Garmin 660, previously a 550) mounted centrally but down out the way below the clocks, my DIY solution….

I removed the stock clamp, drilled a hole and bolted a RAM ball through it (RAM part RAM-B-367 GPS RAM Ball Mount) – tricky to get right, there’s very little clearance for the bolt end/nut so accurate positioning of the hole is crucial and the bolt end and nut had to be filed (Dremmelled;-)

Photos with SatNav cradle and SatNav unit mounted to come! (another ’round to it’)

Why did you choose to do it that way?
In a word…………symmetry!…….I do like symmetry!
I did fit a RAM-B-367U via one of the clamp bolts originally but just didn’t like the look of the RAM ball sat to one corner of the handlebar clamp…….minor and ‘petty’ but hey that’s me! 😀

If you don’t fancy the DIY approach you can now buy a rather nice replacement alloy handlebar clamp from FlightComp that incorporates a mounting position for a RAM ball. coupon code – AW1200 …good for 10% off any item. More info here:

Multistrada 1200 DIY Shorty Black Sports Screen / Windshield
Just my taste (I’m a fussy bugger) but I abandoned the CalSci shorty screen that I went for originally as I didn’t like the ‘fit’ – as per most of the after market screens there’s no ‘dimples’/recesses for the fixing screws so the screen sits more proud of the bike than the Ducati screens (PUIG is the only manufacturer that does the same as Ducati as far as I’ve seen to date…but no shorty 🙁 ) and the fittings sit rather proud of the screen.

FTB I’ve gone the DIY route (Mr Sweden was the first to go DIY I think?) – full ‘how to’ article to come (one day!)…..twice in fact, MKI to the left, MKII right:

I cut the screen down with a ‘jigsaw’, sandpapered (various grades) the edge and then polished it for a smooth finish before the paint. I’ll do a detailed ‘how to’ sometime! ….cut down OE screen painted black on the inside. ‘Painted’ but not by me….me and rattle cans just don’t get on! Had a local auto paint shop do it, one for a better finish and two for the right paints. They ‘keyed’ the inside of the screen (rubbed over with a fine wire wool) which of course makes it go opaque but that’s sorted by the application of a clear plastic primer paint (specific primer for plastics) before a coat of black paint….I chose to have a satin (semi gloss) finish.

More photos taken during the modification of the screen here.

ProTaper ‘EVO’ Black Bars (Handlebars)
See here for fitting / install guide…..see the GPS Mount photo above – more photos to come.

Multistrada 1200 Panniers – Reflective Decal Kit
Like it says on the tin…..adhesive reflective decals that you stick to the back of the Ducati panniers (available in different colours – more info here). Inexpensive but effective…..second photo with camera flash to give an idea of how reflective they are (i.e. in car headlights at night;-)

Electronic Scottoiler – eSystem Scottoiler
(install guide here)
Again….more detail to come one day!

FuzeBlock Aux Fuse Panel / Power Distribution Block
(see here for info & install guide)

MTS1200 LED Aux Lights (Driving lights / spotlights)
Vision-X Solstice Solo LED lights (used as the basis for the Denali LED lighting kit;-) from BikeVis

Demo of the daytime effectiveness of the additional LED lights…

My Multistrada 1200S Sport……..would love to get in to a photo studio again for some more up to date shots 🙂

And finally but sadly for temporary fitment only, one upgrade I just couldn’t afford and had to leave without! lol (couldn’t resist another photo!)
