Photo Gallery – 86 photos of the MTS1200 2012 strip down plus some comparisons with parts/features of the 2010 bike (John’s previous Multistrada 1200 now sold)
The start of the project, a brand new 2012 model Multistrada 1200S Touring in the showroom awaiting collection
The incoming and outgoing – 2012 MTS1200ST to replace the 2010 1200ST
Most of the strip down pics show what might appear to be odd things – it’s all about documenting things like cable routing, and tie wrap placement. In some cases it also shows some of the more obscure things. e.g. when you look at the trellis frame you will see a pair of the bolt holes actually have screw in inserts, which are used I believe to adjust the gap between frame and engine without putting too much tension in the frame.
Interestingly, with all the forks and frame unbolted, and rear wheel out, the engine and remaining frame / swinging arm is really well balanced about the swinging arm pivot point.
When it goes back together all the goodies will go on too:
- Rear Brembo series oro disk
- Evotech radiator guard
- Quat D exhaust system
- Carbon air tubes and side panels
- Carbon cam belt covers
- Keyless fuel filler
- HID headlight kit
- Autocom intercom system
- Ventureshield paint protection system
Not ordered a fender extender or a head-sheild yet but think I will fit both.
Also thinking about something to protect the fork legs, maybe some ventureshield on them too.
Going to spend a bit of time playing with positioning and possibly screening of the autocom this time around. Undecided if I will chop the rear stand leg, need to see if its as bad as the original one was, as its in a different place.
Also going with a Navihalter sat nav mount this time around as I got one for 50 quid.
At least I’ve done this all before once, so can pick and choose the best way this time 😉
John, enquiring if you still do the headlight wiring loom? Thanks, Brian
